It’s 2006, 20 years since I spent a year creating 1,000 sketches. It was a life-changing year. To complete the project I took a 6-month sabbatical to go to America for a month and finish the sketches. It was an adventure. I learned about making art and about art, as is evident in the blog posts on this website.
After the Thousand Sketches, I continued to make more sketches, and I put some of those on my more general blog called Psyberspace. It is a hobby, but I wanted to go beyond that. About 10 years ago having another phase of enthusiasm for sketching led to me quitting on the project. I realized I was working on the sketches to the detriment of another major interest and profession in my life, running psychodrama groups. I decided to focus on running psychodrama workshops. I did that and it was a good decision.
But now… I’m not running weekend groups, at 82 I don’t have the energy for that work. There’s grief in that. Then an interesting thing happened this year — we moved into a new house. I’ve got a new office, and I started sorting out my digital life using AI, that was delightful. I tidied websites, my computer and backups are working. In that process, I collated the sketches I did post Thousand Sketches.
In my childhood and as a teenager I collected stamps. I was an avid stamp collector, and the impulse to sort the sketches me of that. I’m a sketch collector.
Now, 20 years on, there’s a new website Walter Logeman Prints. I’m curating!
So far there are about 50 sketches, about half of them are from the Thousand Sketches era, and the other half from the subsequent 20 years. In a few weeks I’m having a public event. It’s called Thousand Sketches — 20 Years On. Images from the Thousand Sketches in the new website link to the post I made here at the time. Thousand Sketches are alive and well.
