Thousand Sketches Update May 2018

Since the last post about eight years ago I have incorporated my art blog with my more general blog

psyberspace.walterlogeman.com

The Art category covers a lot of art stuff.

The digital sketches cover all my sketches since Thousand Sketches:

NOTE: Though it may say so here and there, I don’t sell prints at this time.

One Huge Display

I had a dream last night that all thousand sketches were printed and mounted onto 8″ square photo blocks and displayed around a huge gallery. The display was for sale for $2,000,000 for the whole set. Half to the dealer.

It looked really good, people loved it, thousands of people were looking very intently at the whole project. I like to think of this as one project, not a lot of separate sketches.

A few thumbnails to get the feel, though they were in one single line in the dream:

Thousand Sketches Update – the life of the hand.

It is a few months off 4 years since I began this Thousand Sketches Project almost three years since I completed it in 2007. I have continued with less haste and perhaps less naive enthusiasm… ? in my Psyberspace Journal Category Art

While on the Thousand Sketches journey I visited Wellington art dealer Peter McLeavey. “Keep Sketching” to find more of myself, was his advice. I think that is ongoing. I went into acrylics… but it is not possible for me while I have a life as a psychotherapist, work hard. It took a lot to give that a go for a while in 2008-9. Back to digital. And it is mostly abstract, circles & crosses, that is all that wants to be there. I do occasional flowers or mountains, but patterns. pattern and more shapes & textures will squeeze them right out.

There is one unifying simple thing: the hand. I like to use my scrawly writing, it is not what comes from my head, but from my hand. Scroll through the last few years of sketches and there is a lot of “hand” scribbling.

This is somewhat typical:

Another more recent, follows:

The beat goes on

Quoting an email I just got.

Hi Walter,

Your artwork was mentioned in Germany’s Beat magazine. They reviewed our first live release and included your circle as the associated artwork.

Signals Under Tests – “Live at verbal Arts” – Beat Magazine Review

“Even though the Irish duo, consisting of Ricky Graham & John King, is actually still working behind the scenes on their first studio album with great attention to detail, this live recording sounds already stunningly mature and in no way like a test. Highly minimal sound grounds, with a high affinity for backward loops, are cut by glamorous jazz-specific guitars and extend up to eleven minutes as in dream time. The enigmatic cover by Walter Logeman congenially complements the music.”

Best,

Ricky

New – Walter Logeman: Gallery – now open

I have done it. The Gallery with five presentations is ready for viewing. It has been great to select images and make some new ones.

Many of the images originated in the Thousand Sketches – but I have sometimes tweaked them. I have also literally used the work here as “sketches” to produce more complete work.

Have a look!
