Kowhai

#0967 Kowhai

I am posting on the 8th November – but these were done almost a week ago at Mt. Lyford. Since then the exhibit has gone up and we had a good opening night!

The year of sketching is coming to a close and one thing on my mind in this last leg is to return. Return in many ways, to the earlier sketches, and to normal life!

Here is an earlier Kowhai.
From about a year ago.

Shark

#0966 Shark

I dreamt a woman artist had collaborated with two older men, one did the background the other some frame setting. The woman was to draw in a shark, or was it carp? This was about 20 years ago and she had never completed the project. The men were now dead and famous, the picture would be worth millions, so I encouraged her to add the fish! It is not too late. She did.

Projects!

I did not know it when I caught the bug in August last year, but projects is something artists do. Paintings do not exist in a vacuum, they belong to a body of work consciously or unconsciously. Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, Monet’s ponds…

Discussion about projects follow, links to David Lynch mp3.

Backup

#0964 Backup

I have had more time doing PC backup stuff and fixing crap than sketching. I was thinking of the early novels, Richardson, all made up of letters, which became possible because of the speed-up of the postal system. The speedup led to the conception of letters forming a whole. In those epistolatory novels the letters themselves are part of the plot. OK, self reflective stuff. So this is a bit like that. So is the next one.

Equal to the Challenge

#0962 Equal to the Challenge

One of the incantations from Eric Maisel’s book, I am equal to the challenge. I had the image of a needle, but finished up with a line. That line is equal to all the black. The next one, like all in this series, is the inverse. Which I arrived at by flipping it over removing the white line and putting in a black line.
