Sitting in the café, thinking that the best thing to sketch would be people walking past, and I did a few, but this is the only one worth posting. It led me on to drawing people & there are a few more coming up.

1. I just read a great book.
2. The topic came up in a forum I am in.
3. I had the digital liquid ink pen in my hand & I could not help it.
4. It just occurred to me it would be fun to try an Elvis tag.
5. I am a fan!
6. Elvis looks like David, the classic artist subject.
How would it look printed on pure pink velvet?
The book of course is Tarzan Presley, by Nigel Cox, a great book with a few legal constrains around it, out of print & selling now for hundreds of $ – I have one & just finished it. The Elvis backstory is just right, he grew up with the apes in New Zealand!

James McNeill Whistler
This is from a painting of him as a young man, which was then shown in a movie, made into a video, snapped off my TV with a camera and then sketched by me.
Great video, great painter.
Wikipedia on Whistler with plenty of images, including the one this sketch is from! I just noticed. But I used a photo I took!

Now in Painter IX.5 nice, almost have “The Pen”. Part of the search here is that I want to develop (post Thousand Sketches) a Sketchblog journal 7 this is the sort of thing I want to do. Thousand Sketches is part of that, especially as I trave, I want to sketch on planes & in cafes. Learning to do that with ease.

C4 is a well known cafe in Christchurch.
The style – which I am getting better – well, faster – at & quite like does not satisfy me here as it does in this people one. I want to persevere against that feeling!

This is the first of an unfinished series. I love the YouTube video that was made for the Bob Dylan 2006 album “Modern Times” I began making sketches from that video a while back and wanted to put the whole series up in one go. I have more to do! They have been challenging. However, I will give them a category, and so eventually they can all be seen on the blog in one go anyway.
